Happy 5th Birthday - Quilter's Blog Hop Party

Welcome to all those that are participating in the Quilter's Blog Hop Party for Quilting Gallery's 5th Birthday.  A very big Happy Birthday to them!  It is always so much fun to hear from all of you as you pass through.  For this celebration there are over 170 Blogger's participating and everyone is giving away a present.  Join us by visiting as many blogs as you can.

For this Birthday celebration I will be giving away two prizes for those leaving comment between December 10-15 as explained below.  First is a collection of ten batiks that are generally 5" x 16".  These are new  fabrics that are from the fabrics that I have used to make my Hawaiian applique kits.

Second prize is a Hawaiian applique 18" pillow kit of your choice. One of the best things about my kits is that the applique is already cut out for you. The design choices are Hibiscus (shown as a finished pillow on the right), Bird of Paradise, Pineapple, Honu/Turtle, or Angels Trumpet.  You can see these designs on my website .  While on my website sign up for my newsletter for a chance to win a free pattern.

In order to qualify for a prize leave a comment telling me about a quilt that has special meaning to you.  If you are interested in winning the Hawaiian kit please tell me what design you would like and what your two favorite colors are.  Two because I just might not have a fabric in your favorite color.  Have fun and Happy Holidays to all!

Please return to Quilter's Gallery to reach the other blogs.

  1. Oh I would love to win THIS design. My adopted daughter is part Hawaiian, and I would love to make this design for her in aquas and greens. Those are her favorite colors. It would be a special delight.

  2. Oh, wow! What a fabulous offering. Thank you for the chance. I'm binding a quilt right now that has special meaning for me. All 16 of my great-great grandparents crossed the United States in the pioneer movement, most with handcarts, a couple with covered wagons. The quilt has broken wagon wheel blocks with quilting motifs of covered wagons or a couple pulling a handcart, and I've quilted the 16 surnames around in one of the borders.

If I somehow luck out and win a hawaiian kit, I love blue multis and fuschia multis.

  4. My grandmother used to quilt - everything single stitch on those quilts were hand-sewn! One year she made me a scrappy quilt using fabrics from all the clothes that she had sewn over the years. I can look at that quilt now and remember the dress I wore in the fourth grade, the skirt I wore to my first boy-girl party, and the dresses I had during those awkward junior high years (I'm dating myself, because way back then, girls had to wear dresses to school. Period. I love your designs! The hibicus in blue is wonderful, or I also like your Angel's Trumpet. Favorite colors for a pillow? I'd say rusts and yellows to match my living room decor. Thanks for the give-away. Come see me over at Mountain Quiltworks.

  8. Your quilts are beautiful. I like the hibiscus and my favorite color is blue. I also love pinks, purples and turquoise too. Batiks are also my favorite fabrics.

I just made my grandson a quilt for his 5th birthday in a Chinese Lanterns pattern. He wanted greens so I used green batiks. Since he is my onlu grandchild, this was a special quilt to make for him and he loves it.

Okay I tried twice to have this comment published and cannot read the word verification. This is why most people give up and don't leave comments. Thought you might want to know this and it would be better to remove your word verification if you want comments. I will give it another try to see if this publishes this time.

As far as a quilt that is very special to me -- the first full quilt I made was a gift for my husband. Actually, it was my wedding gift to him, although I didn't finish it until more than 2 years after our wedding! He calls it our "love quilt" and we sleep under it every night!

My special quilt is a watercolor heart quilt, I saw the book on one of the quilt shows and ordered the book for my MOM (chief quilt maker) she wasn't sure about the process and I told her I would make the top if she did the quilting. Well, Mom got Colon cancer, had surgery on Thanksgiving day and needed to take Chemo therapy.. I went to stay with her for three months while she got her treatments and together we made the quilt I so wanted, We started a basket of flowers for her bed and she never finished quilting that top as she passed away.. The heart quilt is the one and only one that we made together which is why I treasure it so much.

  102. I made my mum a Christmas applique quilt last year to help her decorate her place with less effort. It was only the second quilt I have made.
I love the hibiscus the same as the one in the post if I win second prize. I love blues and greens and purples.

  104. Angels trumpet please x Quilt with most meaning?
One I made for a little girl the same as our youngest daughter, whose mother was brutally murdered. (The LO was only 2 at the time)
I put a quilt together for her, with hand embroidered panels that had significant pictures of her little life so far, pregnant woman, woman nursing a baby, woman walking with a toddler and a toddler in bed with an angel looking on and stroking the tot's hair...

This was my first true quilt and the first one to have true, real meaning... I cried tears putting it together, and hope the little lady who will now be coming up to three, will have something that she can keep forever...

She lives in Plymouth and we hope to get babies together for a play date when I go down to visit my family over Xmas
    J x

Oh fav colours...? I don't really have any, open to suggestion x

  107. [Ooops, pressed "publish" before writing about a meaningful quilt] My great-grandmother was a quiltmaker and quilt designer, so we have many of her original quilts around. (Some are in museums!) My favorite is her Bedtime crib quilt.

He's a CLemson fan, so we always look for the organce and purple combo.

  115. The quilt that means the most to me right now is the one I just finished. A wedding quilt for my sister!

  116. If I win the Hawaiian pillow kit I choose the Hibiscus design in blue or violet. A quilt with a special meaning to me would be the one I made some years ago. It's called "Stari Most" and it tells about an ancient bridge in the former Yugoslavia. The bridge was bombed to ruins during the war in 1993, but I had visited the country and walked over the bridge in the early 80's.

  117. those batik fabrics look lovely! My favorite quilt - I'd have to say my Rainbow Quilt. It started with just a pile of 6" scrappy squares and grew to a twin size quilt. It is one of my best.http://eileen-themissingpiece.blogspot.com/2012/04/rainbow-quilt-quilted.html

  118. What a nice giveaway your having - I like all colors and always willing to try something different.
My favorite quilts are the ones my Mom made - her favorite that she used all the time was an unusal design that I have never seen in books or magazines, so that one is one closest to my heart and when I sleep under it I know I was loved..
    Thanks for the chance.
